Ryan Schneider (b. 1980) creates vibrant paintings and sculptures shaped by the landscape and mythology of the natural world.
Ryan Schneider (b. 1980, Indianapolis) is an American artist based in Joshua Tree, California. Working across painting and sculpture, his practice is deeply connected to the desert landscape surrounding his studio and to ideas of nature, spirituality, and transformation.
Schneider’s works are characterized by intense color, energetic mark-making, and heavily worked surfaces. Drawing on German Expressionism as well as tree-spirit mythology, he approaches the natural world as something alive and psychologically charged, creating figures and landscapes that move between observation, imagination, and a more primal sense of place.
