Mattia Sinigaglia (b. 1989) is an Italian-Spanish artist living and working between Venice and the hills of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. His practice develops through a dialogue between painting, wood, clay, and ceramics, allowing the physical qualities and histories of these materials to shape the work.
Sinigaglia describes many of his works as sculptural paintings, where painting and volume merge through a slow, responsive process. Antique hemp canvas, historic woods, glazed ceramics, and other materials become active elements within the composition rather than simply supports. His recent work explores the relationship between animality and humanity, understood as a shared space between humans, non-human life, and the natural environment.
